Automatic Email Alert for AppMon when a SERVER (or a Server SERVICE) goes down...

Hi All!

We’re hoping for some help…

We're new to creating items in Solarwinds/Orion first off. We've been tasked to:

  1. Create an Automatic Email Alert when a SERVER goes down.
  2. Create an Automatic Email Alert when a SERVER SERVICE goes down.

We were told that we could probably use 'AppMon' for this. Can we?

We need to develop a step-by-step document for each one of the above, to be given to Tech Support Staff to create their own in the future, giving them Access in the Software to do this.

We've had SolarWinds/Orion for quite some time, but the 'development person' is no longer available, so we've used the software as someone set it up, but 'creating something’ is still really new!

We have Orion w/ SAM, copied an existing AppMon and made changes to the new one for testing.

The following is our idea of what the 'step by step' instructions would look like....

Step 1 of 8

Configure Email alerts for monitored devices Servers or Individual Services

 Signon to SolarWinds

  1. Select SETTINGS
  2. Select ALL SETTINGS
  3. Locate the Widget: ALERTS AND REPORTS (SAS ALERT - <Name of Alert> <Server Name)
  4. Select MANAGE ALERTS
  1. a) Select an ALERT NAME (to Duplicate and then Edit)
  2. b) Check the ALERT NAME, then select the DUPLICATE and EDIT option from the Option Tabs above. (NEVER Modify any existing Alerts.)

Step 2 of 8

EDIT ALERT – PROPERTIES

Step 3 of 8

EDIT ALERT – TRIGGER CONDITION

                                                                                .. and so on.

We're not sure this is what we need to be looking at and having the Analyst go thru to develop their individual Alerts, but we do want to keep it as a 'start to finish, step by step' simplistic instruction set for them as there are different levels of experience and expertise, with some never having to use SolarWinds/Orion other than to observe and drill down with ready made Widgets, etc.

Is there anything like this that exists already?  We’ll have to add our steps but it would be a huge help!

Thank you for your help with this too!
