How to use TFTP Server for file updates?

Hi,

I'm from Germany and I need help for uploading new BIN-file to my printserver using TFTP-Server. After firmware update the printserver doesn't work. It gets a new IP and it es possible to ping this IP, but no contact for doing the Printserver settings. So I have to flash the firmware again. How to execute the BIN-file with TFTP Server? I don't find any help for TFTP-Server but only for the Engeer's-Toolset. I only need to upload and download executable images and backup configurations for routers and switches.

Thanks and greatings from Germany

Hans.

  • Snoopy1,

There will be a section in the Engineer's Toolset help file about the TFTP server. Also, you may want to look at our Config Transfer and Config Compare gadgets in the Engineer's Toolset Workspace Studio or the Config Download and Config Upload classic tools in the Toolset.

  • Hi Steve,

thanks, but I only find description of the Toolset but no manual for using the TFTP Server. Please, give me a help for working with the TFTP to find the manual for uploding a new firmware to my printserver. I thought the TFTP Server is an stand alone Tool to manage uploads without further Toolset, because I think I need these TFTP Server only once to repair my printserver.

    Thanks a lot

    Hans.

  • Can you explain in more detail what you are trying to achieve?

If you want a standalone TFTP tool download it here.

  • Snoopy1,

TFTP Server is a stand-alone free tool that is also included in the Toolset. I am unclear on which one you have. If it is the stand-alone version then you should be able to get to the help just by clicking on the help link. If you have Toolset bring up the Toolset documentation and goto the following section:

Administrators Guide -> Cisco-Specific Network Tools -> TFTP server

Basically, you will just want to set any settings specific to your environment (port #, security filters, etc) and then start the TFTP server. Then you can use TFTP commands either on your print server or your host machine to upload from your host machine to your print server. You may need to look up TFTP help on either your print server or your host machine as well.
