SolarWinds Lab Episode #91 – Customizing the Orion Platform With the SolarWinds API and SWQL

September 16, 2020

In this follow up to "Orion SDK 101: Intro to PowerShell and Orion API," Kevin M. Sparenberg, technical content manager for Community, will continue with his deep dive into the SolarWinds Query Language (SWQL). Kevin will show you how to represent existing data from within your monitoring ecosystem using traditional elements (e.g., reports, widgets, etc.) and in the new, modern dashboards, as well. A working knowledge of basic T-SQL queries is highly recommended.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to get started with dashboards
  • What makes a good or bad dashboard
  • How to build your own widgets
  • How to execute proper dashboard research, design, and implementation
  • Where to find more help

SolarWinds Lab #86 - Orion SDK 101: Intro to PowerShell and Orion API

  • 18:00 Could you share this custom HTML widget with time zones please?

  • I did mean a Report > All Reports. I do find the field names in SWQL Studio, but I'll go see about asking in the Orion SDK Forum as you suggest.

    Thanks, love the videos!

  •  You say "report" a few times, but do you mean Custom Query Widget?  If so, then what you're asking for shouldn't be too crazy difficult.  Did you find the field names you want to search by using SWQL Studio?  Either way, the best place to ask questions like this is the Orion SDK forum.

  • You mentioned the Lab Archives, but I only see lab episodes #72 to #92. I've tried a few different browsers but do not see anything that says, "next page" to find other past labs.

    This stuff is great!

The thing I'd really like to see is how to search multiple tables in one report. I have information in Orion.Nodes, Orion.NodeIPAddresses, Orion.NodeVlans, and Orion.NodesCustomProperties that I would like to pull into one report. And if there's a way to calculate different formats to put in the table. Email me and I can explain better.

  • Anyone asked about SAML auth in API/SDK? I missed this live
