[Round of 32] Easy-Bake Oven vs. Etch A Sketch

Easy-Bake Oven [Details]

The Easy-Bake Oven is a working toy oven that comes with packets of cake mix and small round pans. After water is added to the mix in the pan, it is pushed into the oven through a slot. After cooking, the cake is pushed out through a slot in the other end.

Etch A Sketch [Details]

An Etch A Sketch has a thick, flat gray screen in a red plastic frame. There are two white knobs on the front of the frame in the lower corners. Twisting the knobs moves a stylus that displaces aluminum powder on the back of the screen, leaving a solid line.

Parents
  • Point: The US Department of Energy just banned new sales of incandescent bulbs, so the Easy-Bake Oven will never return to its glory.  Kids today need to learn how to burn themselves on the actual oven.

Counterpoint: Etch A Sketch was the first rage-quit machine in my house. When it looked bad, you just shook the think like it owed you money. In retrospect, people may not smash video game controllers as much if they learned how to rage-quit properly via an Etch A Sketch.  Shake; don't yeet.
