It is my pleasure to announce the release of SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console (EOC) 2.1. EOC is designed to present a consolidated view of performance data and status for those customers who run distributed deployments of Orion. This particular release is geared toward removing complexity, and simplifying customization within the console. We want to take the newly updated feature set from previous versions, make it more user friendly, and bring in some additional enhancements we think you might like.

In EOC 2.0 we introduced new methods for rolling up status and a new Enterprise Summary Dashboard. This article (Understanding Changes In EOC 2.0 - The Enterprise Summary View ) actually goes into much more detail, but perhaps we can start with looking at an example of that view.
The Enterprise Summary Dashboard provided quick access to a roll-up of different statuses from any entity across your distributed environment. It provided options to quickly investigate potential hot spots with a couple clicks rather than scroll through endless lists. The problem... these two widgets were all that could be added to the view. The dashboard could not be customized other than the layout, and the Enterprise Summary Widget was actually a collection of widgets with its own scroll bar. This was a limitation many of you were not fond of and since its release, you have been asking for some improvements in this area. The most difficult part was often configuring the tiles themselves, ensuring they represented a set of specific entities, and we have made some significant changes we think you will appreciate.
In EOC 2.1, by tweaking the layout solution used, we were able to allow widgets from the 2.0 dashboard to coexist with the other available resources in EOC. You will notice from my screenshot below, the 2.1 version of the dashboard will provide the all new general Status Tiles, an Orion Site Status widget, a Site Filter widget, an Enterprise Nodes list, and the new and improved All Alerts widget right out-of-the-box. For customers who upgrade from 2.0, we will automatically have any previously created custom tiles migrated and applied to this dashboard.

The All Alerts widget was available in the 2.0 release, but not as prevalent as it is now. This widget adds tremendous value for filtering, searching, and acknowledging alerts right from the main dashboard. It is now the de facto alerts resource in the EOC web console.
Filtering allows you to have a quick toggle between severity types. The sort feature offers the ability to set the widget to descending or ascending based on options such as Alert Name, Active Time, Triggering Object, Site, etc... Depending on your environment, you have numerous options to tinker with at your disposal.
Back by popular demand is the Enterprise Nodes widget. The Summary Tiles offer numerous ways of highlighting status for entities and prevent you from scrolling or hunting for details through endless lists, but sometimes a list view just makes sense. Available in the widget drawer, you now have the ability to add this back to your views and we even added a bit of a twist. Checkout the "Grouping Nodes" setting which has been extended to 5 filter levels vs the previous 3, enjoy.
You will also notice that the Status Tiles themselves have now become individual widgets. Many of the EOC 2.0 adopters enjoyed the addition of the Status Tiles, however, when wanting to really dig in and tailor a tile for a specific scenario, they would need to use custom SWQL queries. This is cool, but lets be honest... a much smaller percentage of our users are familiar with the SolarWinds Query Language, and really, it's just not maintaining the theme of simplicity.
I am very proud to say that we have made some drastic improvements and anxious for your feedback. When editing a Status Tile, the user will see a screen in which they can still choose to customize the title and subtitle, and then make selections based on Site, Group, or Entity. You can certainly save here and move to your next tile, but what about users that are looking for more granularity? The Advanced SWQL Filter is still there for those of you that prefer that sort of thing, but now you also have a new Advanced Entity Filter.
Selecting this option will pull up a unique dialogue, where you can select from the drop down of entity types, then add conditional filters in order to specify with much more granularity, which entities you want represented in the tile. This provides you with a builder that makes customization much easier than ever before.
The beauty of EOC 2.1 here is that any and all of these resources can be added to the same views. This was a problem that came up often with the 2.0 version that we wanted to address, and feel like we have made significant strides in this area. Here are some examples of quick dashboards I generated within a couple minutes. You could easily create a series of views and have these filtering through in NOC mode, add maps, or even sneak in a PerfStack widget. If you see something unique in the center screenshot below, EOC is able to take advantage of the new PerfStack widget released in the latest version of core, and offers yet another way to represent critical data. You will notice that we have also completed "sanitation" of resources and items that do not function for EOC. This was done to ensure users have a clean experience and can clearly identify the items they are looking for. As you navigate the console, I am sure you will spot a number of other areas which have also received some TLC. Resources such as the "Groups" will also make their way back into EOC. Groups will have a default dashboard dedicated to them out-of-the-box, but the resources can be added to any view as needed. The All Groups, Groups with Problems, Last 25 Group Events, and Active Group Alerts will all make their way back into EOC dashboards.
We have added back the beloved "Global Top 10 Page" and this will also be provided through a built in menu. This page in particular was built using Custom Table widgets, and we ensured that users could have an important visual cue via the Percentage Bar feature, to highlight areas of interest quickly. This additional benefit to the widget will be available in any custom table resource in EOC or even your remote Orion Instances. There are a number of the standard Top XX widgets available in the widget drawer as well for you to choose from.
