OpsMgr2012 Application Template

Version 3

Prototype template for monitoring a System Center Operations Manager 2012 environment with Server & Application Monitor.

System Center Operations Management application templates

for SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

This package consists of two templates, one for the front-end Operations Manager server, and another for the SQL services supporting the Operations Manager server.

    Operations Manager 2012 template

    Consists of the following:

    • 4 HTTP Monitor components
    • 10 Windows Service Monitor components
    • 9 TCP Port Monitor components

    HTTP Monitor components

The template is configured with an HTTP Monitor component for each of the four web applications implemented in an Operations Manager 2012 server:

    • AppAdvisor
    • AppDiagnostics
    • MonitoringView
    • OperationsManager

These HTTP monitors are configured for port 80. If you have installed OpsMgr to an alternate port, you’ll need to edit these monitors to use the correct port number. If you have implemented SSL for your OpsMgr website, you’ll need to add the equivalent HTTPS Monitor components and disable the provided HTTP Monitor components.

    Windows Service Monitor components

Components are provided for the following services:

    • IIS Admin Service (iisadmin)
    • OpsMgr Audit Collection Service (adtserver)
    • Orion Management Pack Service (orionscom.exe)*
    • RPC Endpoint Mapper (rpceptmapper)
    • SNMP Service (snmp)**
    • System Center Data Access Service (omsdk)
    • System Center Management (healthservice)
    • System Center Management Configuration (cshost)
    • Windows Management Instrumentation (winmgmt)
    • World Wide Web Publishing Service (w3svc)

*The Orion Management Pack is a separate download available from the SolarWinds web site.

**The SNMP Service monitor is disabled by default since the SNMP service on Windows Server is also disabled by default. If you have enabled SNMP on your Operations Manager server, you may wish to enable this component to monitor the service.

    TCP Port Monitors

These TCP Port monitors are configured in the Operations Manager 2012 template:

    • 80 (HTTP)
    • 135 (RPC Endpoint Mapper)
    • 139 (NetBIOS Session Service)
    • 445 (Server Message Block)
    • 5723 (OpsMgr Heartbeat)
    • 51905 (OpsMgr Connector Framework Source)
    • 51906 (OpsMgr Agentless Exception Monitoring)*
    • 51907 (OpsMgr Customer Experience Improvement Program)*
    • 51909 (OpsMgr Audit Collection Service Forwarder)

*These TCP Port monitors are disabled in the template as they are not typically used; however, if you have implemented agentless systems, you may wish to enable the monitor for port 51906.

Operations Manager 2012 SQL Server template

    Consists of the following:

    • 8 Windows Service Monitor components
    • 2 TCP Port Monitor components

    Windows Service Monitor components

These service components are included in the SQL Server template:

    • RPC Endpoint Mapper (rpceptmapper)
    • SNMP Service (snmp)*
    • SQL Server (mssqlserver)**
    • SQL Server Agent (sqlserveragent)
    • SQL Server Analysis Services (mssqlserverolapservice)***
    • SQL Server Reporting Service (reportserver)
    • SQL Server VSS Writer (sqlwriter)
    • Windows Management Instrumentation (winmgmt)

*The SNMP Service monitor is disabled by default since the SNMP service on Windows Server is also disabled by default. If you have enabled SNMP on your Operations Manager server, you may wish to enable this component to monitor the service.

**If SQL Server is installed on a named instance, the service name will be different, and this component will require customization.

***The SQL Server Analysis Services may not be enabled for your Operations Manager environment. The template disables this service monitor by default. If you are using Analysis Services for Operations Manager, you may wish to enable this service monitor.

    TCP Port Monitor components

These two port monitors are included:

    • 135 (RPC Endpoint Mapper)
    • 1433 (SQL Server)*

*SQL Server may be customized to use an alternate port. If so, this port monitor will need to be customized to reflect the actual port number. If SQL Server is installed on a named instance, the port is determined dynamically, unless fixed through custom configuration.
