Hardware Monitoring from ESXi 5.0 server

Hi,

ist it possible to monitor the Health Status from the ESXi 5.0 Dell servern ? I can do this with servern where a Microsoft operating system and the DellOpen Manager is installed (see picture).

I installed the DellOpen Manger for my ESXi servern too but I don't have the point "Hardware Health of Servers".

It could be the agents aren't installed to relay the information to Solarwinds ? I know ESXi presents its own challenges due to the OS platform.

SAM fully supports Hardware Health Monitoring of VMWare ESX hosts. No vendor supplied agent software is nessesary. This is all handled by VMWare itself. How are you monitoring the ESX host? Is it managed directly in Orion or through the vCenter? I would recommend first trying to manage the ESX host directly, and if that works then the problem is with the vCenter. Hardware Health monitoring for VMware hosts through the vCenter requires that the VMware hardware health plug-in is enabled.

To monitor the statistics of the VMs you need the VMWare API license correct? We spent a ton of money on our VCenter license to be able to poll the VCenter hosts. I guess I'm getting hardware health and general VM SNMP polling mixed up.

Hardware health is polled through the VMware API for ESX hosts, but you don't need a special license to do so.

I'm referring to being able to SNMP poll the ESX server and pull all the information on all the VMs on that machine.

Neither NPM or SAM allow you to monitor the health and performance for VMware exclusively through SNMP because that information isn't made available from VMware via SNMP. SNMP is limited to basic performance metrics for the host itself, such as CPU and volume usage. For all things VMware this information is collected using the VMware API.
