Purging Unwanted Data

Question

What is the best way to purge unwanted data from a Table in the DB?  My Trapvarbinds table has grown to 18GB, as a result of the retention limit of 180 days.  I've lowered the retention time to 5 days and now I want to purge the data.  I ran the DB maintenance tool and there was no change.  Any suggestions?

I am running Orion 8.1. SLX

What exactly are you deletiong when you purge the TrapVarBinds table?

Yes you can...

- truncate table Traps

- truncate table TrapVarBinds

(In case you prefer detailed steps)

go to your DB Manager from the Orion application. Be sure to run a backup and stop your polling services for this to take affect.

find your SQL Server on the left pane then drop down the tree until you find your DB.

Then find your Trapvarbinds table. From here right click to query table then when the window pops open click read/write then refresh.

Delete out what is populated in the Query command table and input in "Truncate Table TrapVarbinds" then get out of DB Manager and run maintenance then compact and repair. Then start your polling service back up.
