Change in Volume Index
alfordc
Hi,
Does anyone know what a change in volume index means? It has happened a few times on the memory and virtual memory of one particular server but I cannot find out why.
Also, I have recently found out that Orion could monitor Volume errors. Does anyone know of what kind of errors (e.g. bad sectors on a Disk, memory errors) would make up a volume error?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Chris

Hi Chris,
The volume index change, particularly for memory and virtual memory, is nothing to be concenred about. This is simply a change in the SNMP index value for the volume in question. This can occur because of a multitude of factors related to the vendor SNMP implementation and conditions on a host (reboot, more memory added, etc...).
Orion monitors Allocation Errors for disk volumes. In order to add this chart to the volumes view you will have to select a custom volume chart from the resource list and then select the Allocation Errors chart type.
I hope this helps.
Be fantastic.
