Polling ESX host through vcenter causes ESX Host to go into "Warning" state - why ?

When I poll my ESX hosts through my vcenter server, the ESX status in the "ESX Host Details" resource, goes into warning (yellow) state. However when I change them to poll ESX directly, they go green.

Further, there is no indication as to why it's in Warning - nothing to lead me to where the issue is. I suspect NPM is reading some extra info from the VCenter that NPM doesn't do directly ?
