lynksys srw208 authentication

We are trying to build a template for a lynksys srw208.  The srw208 requires a tab (rather than a return) after the user name has been submitted for authentication to the password submission.  Is there any way to make NCM submit a tab for this authentication rather than the standard Return to pass us to the password?

Two things as I'm working through this:

Will ${tab} work as a variable to pass a tab function?

Also, when building this template, because we have more than one set of key strokes to pass to get to the command prompt, are we able to define more than one PreCommand and will NCM differentiate the PreCommands based on a RegEx match?  (example comes from the admin guide)
