Below is the question I had originally asked as to going about trying to set up Orion alerts for event logs without the use of APM or Syslog. Thanks to member Byrone's help I was lead to a workaround called "Evntwin" that I'm currently trying to test. My question at this point is, once you're able to setup the log translations into traps via Evntwin (assuming this is done successfully), how would you go about setting up the alerts within Orion's alert manager?
Note: To clarify, I think the reason why my supervisors don't want to use APM nor Syslog is because NPM has really only been in place here for less than a year so they're still trying to fully learn how to manage, adapt, and better administer the Orion environment within the company's server/network infrastructures. The constant changes that the infrastructure is correctly going through doesn't help either.
Original Question:
"At my place of work they've wanted to do something like an event log alert for some of their servers. In searching thwack I've read some of your replies and I figured I'd send you a message to directly with my particular question. My supervisors want to see if its possible to set up an Orion email alert that would be triggered by event IDs. They'd like to be alerted the same way they already are by Orion NPM. The thing is that they want to avoid using Syslog but from what I'm reading in the threads, Syslog would have to be involved in some way of another. Unless there are other methods that I'm not aware of. I read in one of your replies that you can have "syslog viewer" send out emails or notifications but I'm not clear as to how. I'm currently an intern at this company so my knowledge of Orion isn't that great in quantity but if there is a way that this could be done or any suggestion at any alternate them I'm willing to explore that route. Thanks in advanced for your help."
