So, in keeping with my check-out-the-features type of posts, I wanted to make sure that you all are aware of the @-mentioning feature. By using the @ sign, you can mention another user, a space, a blog post, a discussion... pretty much anything.
Let's say you want to mention me, Danielle, or a product manager by name in a post. You type up your post as you normally would and then you type @danielle.
If the person you are looking for does not appear in the drop-down list, make sure you use an underscore ( _ ) to separate words. Spaces are not understood.
The link makes it incredibly convenient for other community members reading your post to navigate to the content mentioned.
The screenshot above also shows a good variety of @-able objects; take a look at the icons.
Distribution List or Person
Discussion or Question
This is not a definitive list, but it should give you a good start.
As an extra benefit, a user who is @-mentioned will be notified in their Communications stream .
So, not only will they know they've been mentioned, they'll get that warm fuzzy feeling we all remember from getting our first email (before being spammed to death made that feeling disappear).
So go ahead, @-mention some content that helps answer a question from your colleagues. Or, @-mention a community member you think could help with a question or discussion. Or, @-mention someone you would like to have take a look at your post. I think this is incredibly powerful and can be super helpful. But, please also respect your fellow community members and only @-mention them when it makes sense.
