Hello THWACK Community! My name is Brett and I am a new Community Manager here at Solarwinds in Lehi, Utah! I am SO excited to meet everyone in this great community!

 

Just a bit about myself… I am originally from Northridge, CA. I attended junior college in Santa Monica, CA and then graduated from Arizona State University at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications in August 2015.

 

I have found my passion in building online communities and serving people within these communities.

 

Outside of THWACK, I enjoy traveling, meeting new people, being around water, spending time with my girlfriend (VERY soon to be fiancé!), college football, and trying new restaurants!

 

In regards to THWACK, I'm here to serve you and continue to bring an excellent user experience! But first, I want to hear from YOU!

It is with great sadness that I share with y'all today that I am officially leaving THWACK. This was a tough decision to make as I have truly loved being apart of such a passionate and dedicated community, but the time has come for me to close this amazing chapter of my life. I am so thankful that this was my first job opportunity after graduating college and will forever remember each and everyone of you and your love for all things THWACK!

 

I have to give a huge shout out to my team members DanielleH, wabbott, and thegreateebzies. Y'all made it easy to come to work everyday and always kept me laughing and smiling. I hope my next set of coworkers enjoys how much I talk about Weezer (my cat) and can handle my love for food--especially doughnuts and queso.

 

It's been a wonderful and I can't wait to see where my life takes me next!

Request detail: Help!!! We were having our annual Marketing summer bash and things got a little out of hand. The weather wasn’t cooperating so we had to move everything inside—including the dunk tank that we use to dunk the CMO and other heads of marketing. We had a hard time finding a corner big enough to set up the tank until we came across a large corner on the IT floor next to that room where the server thingies live (I’m not sure what y’all do with all of those). Anyway, one thing led to another and I’m afraid that room may have gotten a little wet. I didn’t think it was a big deal until we couldn’t access our emails or any of our files on the shared drive. Please tell me you can fix this?! Maybe try unplugging them and plugging them back in? That’s usually what you tell me when I can’t get anything to work. J Thanks!!

The second quarter was the greatest of fun, my THWACKalite friends! It’s your friendly THWACK product manager, back with your next quarterly update on what’s new, what’s blue, and cooking.

 

You may have noticed DanielleH, wabbott, and lindsey.serrano have started an exciting process of adding the coolest of unique swag to the THWACK store, in the form of an Erlenmeyer flask water bottle, a thumping new Bluetooth speaker, and what we’re lovingly starting to call a ‘THWAmmock’. Because, you know, puns! Act fast, supplies are flying off our digital shelves.

 

Half-Steps Back:

  • We had a short period of time where y’all were collecting your magnificent THWACK points at a rate faster than Bunchball could track them. The pain points have been identified and resolved.

 

Leaps Forward:

  • We’re excited to announce we've completed our upgrade to the latest and greatest community platform. Things went off without a hitch and THWACK was only down for ~6 hours.
  • Is something going on with SolarWinds Lab? You may have noticed a new nav icon and a design refresh. Our beloved IT Pro talk show has received some makeup, including new page skins, a sweet new logo, and a rocking new intro segment. Haven’t watched an episode before? You should check us out on the 16th!
  • Slow chant: THWACKcamp! THWACKcamp! THWACKcamp! We’re in the throes of prepping for THWACKcamp 2017, and it’s going to be our biggest, baddest event in THWACK history. Not counting the great Network Performance Monitor Riots of 1862. Registration started August 1st.

 

It’s been a wild quarter, and there are some amazing things about to happen in the coming months. DanielleH just won’t let me tell you about them. Something about “surprise”. Thanks for being loyal friends and family on here. In the words of the great William THWACKspeare: “To THWACK, or not to THWACK. That is the question.”

SysAdmin Day is right around the corner and that means here at THWACK® HQ, we’ve got system and application problems on the brain, not to mention all the tools you need to solve them. If only life in the systems admin world was contained to restarting servers, swapping hardware, and monitoring storage health—you know, the fun stuff. Unfortunately, we also have those challenging “people issues” that never go away. We’re talking, that guy who not only stalks you at your desk with his broken laptop—but also routinely forgets passwords, tells bro jokes you don’t want to hear, AND snags you right before you’re out the door for the weekend!

 

Whether it’s troubleshooting app performance issues or “that guy”—let’s call him B.r.a.d. (short for “being really annoying daily”)—you deserve to be appreciated for all the work you do. We’re dedicating this mission and the month of July to celebrating SysAdmins everywhere, because we don’t think one day is enough.

 

Without further ado, let’s dive into the July THWACK mission and see if you will be able to move ahead in the proverbial systems game. Keep an eye out for “Bradisms” after each question and let us know in the comment section if you can relate.
