As described in this blog post, SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager v7.2 has reached Beta status. In the meantime, we have been working on further enhancements and improvements. One of the features we focused on is the possibility to attach End-of-Life information to nodes managed by NCM.

To participate in the Beta program, simply fill out this survey and you will be sent the download links for the Beta. (If you already subscribed, you don't have to do it again.)

Remember, Betas cannot be installed in production and you cannot upgrade the Beta to any other future versions.

Protecting your network from rogue devices just got real with the new User Device Tracker 3.0. With the latest release of UDT, you’re in control of who and what connects to your network. It’s like having your very own SWAT team at your fingertips.

No longer does your network have to be at the mercy of unknown or unsafe devices, which at the very least are consuming valuable IP space or bandwidth, and at the very worst, accessing confidential data or taking down the network.

UDT gives you the power to track endpoint activity and stop unwanted users and devices from wreaking havoc on your network!

New Feature Highlights:

  • Device Whitelisting: Define which devices are deemed safe for network access. Any devices connected to your network that are not on the whitelist will appear in the Rogue Devices resource list and an alert will be automatically generated.
  • Remote Port Shutdown: Being able to identify offending devices or unwanted network connections is one thing, but with no actionable controls, the problem remains unresolved. Therefore, it’s crucial to have controls like click-of-a-button port shutdown to stop threats and network problems in their tracks.
  • User Watch List: Flag users, in addition to devices, so you can be alerted every time they connect to the network. Whether for troubleshooting or security purposes, UDT will be your network’s watch dog.

So when you think SolarWinds User Device Tracker, think SWAT!

Secure network access

Whitelisting and watch lists

Active port shutdown

Tracking users and devices

SolarWinds User Device Tracker (UDT) delivers automated user and device tracking along with powerful switch port management so you can stay in control of who and what connects to your network. And, you can do it all from an easy-to-use, point-and-click Web interface!

Last week dozens of you were instrumental in helping us decide between two launch banners for SolarWinds Firewall Security Manager.  We are pleased to announce that FSM v6.5 is generally available as of last night with the community chosen banner, of course.  Anyway, it's time for a new mission and another chance for you to move up a few notches on the leader board.

May's Mission

Complete the thwack Firewall Security Manager (FSM) Challenge - a 10 question quiz where you can earn between 400 and 4,000 thwack points!

New to FSM?  Don't even own FSM?  No worries.  We've laid out the documentation/videos to ensure you can correctly answer each of the questions.  Even if you miss all of the questions you'll earn 400 points for attempting the challenge.

You will not need to sign up for anything or fill in an email address.  However, a few rules do apply.  You will only receive points for your first attempt at completing the challenge (feel free to retake the challenge if you're dead set on finding all of the correct answers).  Also, as mentioned, we are not collecting email addresses.  Therefore, don't forget to enter your thwack username/ID at the end of the quiz so we know who you are.  Once submitted, you'll be taken to the score page which will reflect how many points you've earned.  Each question is worth 400 points.  7 correct answers = 2800 points (and so on...). The points and badge will be added to your profile within 24 to 48 hours.

So, take the challenge, earn some points, and if we're lucky, you'll spread the word about SolarWinds Firewall Security Manager or even try it for yourself.
