Wildcard in middle of File Exist Monitor?

I know that I can use a wildcard in a File Exist monitor in SAM. Can I use that wildcard in the middle of the path instead of just the end?

For example: I know this works:

\\Server\Share\Subfolder\*

Will this work?

\\Server\Share\*\Subfolder\*

If not, is there a way around this limitation? I have an FTP folder named Clients which has a consistent subfolder structure. I need to make sure there isn't a file present, amongst all the various clients, within a specific folder.

EDIT: I'm going to revamp my monitor to be based on the Component Name, formatting it like this: \Servername\sharename\${ComponentName}\Upload\*.* which has already demonstrated that it works properly.
