Can node alias field be overwritten by SNMP,etc?

I am using node alias field to comment what hostname we have documented for the IP address and use comments as a free text field.

Would hate to have it overwritten by SNMP scan - right now it seems that only pulls hostname which we have a SQL reporting any hostname <> node alias.

Thoughts?

    I think you are correct in that it wont be overwritten.  I expect (and use it) for a.k.a. and sometimes for hosts names when I reserve and system not online so if stays reserved too long, I know what it was intended for.  Also helps when they don't match up, like you are proposing.
