Currently our SEUM installation resides on the same server as our primary APM application/poller. Performance is slow at times. We added a secondary poller to our APM environment, which has excess capacity. Can SEUM be migrated to this server, and run alongside the secondary poller?
This wasn't possible with SeUM 1.0, but SeUM 1.5 fully supports Additional Pollers. You'll still need SeUM installed on the primary Orion server, but all the SeUM job processing, job scheduling, etc. can be offloaded to the additional poller.
SeUM 1.5 was released earlier today and should be already be available to download from your customer portal.
I would like to clarify how things work in SEUM to prevent possible confusion.
SEUM 1.5 supports additional pollers but as any other module it has to be installed also on main server. Additional poller just handles scheduling and results processing. Major part of performance intensive tasks is done on Player.
When you add SEUM to additional poller, you should also update your player locations (via web administration) and assign them to this additional poller so that their jobs and results are processed on poller and not on main server.
However work that poller or main server does is less than 5% of total work that Players do. So to improve performance of your playbacks you should rather add new Player machines and distribute transaction to these machines.
Thanks for the clarification Jiri. What we are seeing is just very sluggish behavior in the UI. We will attempt to move more APM nodes to the secondary poller before further changes to SEUM. It does however sound like we are going to need multiple players in each play back location to carry our load.
