Native Juniper EX Virtual Chassis Support

Hi,

When can we expect native Juniper EX Virtual Chassis support?  I've searched the forum and get the UDP approach, but it adds overhead and requires a lot of tweaking.  I manage a team of Engineers and don't want them wasting time on workarounds.  I would like to simply add the resource, click what we want to monitor and move on.

We opened a ticket (303708), but I'm not liking what I'm hearing, especially after being told upgrading to the latest version would most likely fix the issue.  We're now on the latest version and it's hit or miss.  Most of our attempts to "List Resources" on Virtual Chassis either fail or output a portion of the valid interfaces.  The SNMP Walk looks OK and our traceoptions on the Juniper kit shows everything is healthy.

Taking into consideration the partnership between Juniper and Solarwinds, I expect more.  If anyone has anything to share or recommend (outside of using UDP), please do.  I'm a few steps away from ripping out Solarwinds and moving to another product.  This includes all the modules as well (NTA, SLA, NCM, etc).

Thanks for your time.

    John,

I'm sorry about your frustration. You are right, UnDP provides some of the data but also carries overhead with configuration and tweaking. In 10.2 we added more support for Juniper (CPU and Memory collection, sub-interfaces, etc.) but there might still be areas we don't cover well.

Regarding this specific case, it looks like it is still under investigation. It could be a problem with the browser not being able to process the large number of interfaces (we were able to re-produce the problem in house on IE7 but not FF, Chrome or newer versions of IE). If this is not the problem, we will continue to investigate and see what is going on. As soon as we know the root cause, I can provide you more information.

    Thank you,

    Mav

    Hi John,

your problem is known issue introduced in 10.2 by implementation of new discovery framework and has nothing to do with Juniper device. It is reproducible for most devices with huge number of interfaces (around 1000). Developers are working on the fix so it should be fixed in future release.

Actually there are several workarounds but none of them is 100% accurate.

Try to apply this Microsoft Fix 50403 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175500/en-us).

or try use different browser - FireFox or Chrome

If you are able to reproduce the problem in FireFox then following steps might help as well:

    1. Open Mozilla Firefox
    2. In the Address bar –> Type “about:config” and press enter
    3. Press “I’ll be careful, I promise” button and press enter
    4. In the filter box type “dom.max_chrome_script_run_time”
    5. Change the configuration displayed in the window below to the number of seconds you want. (there is 20sec in default, I used for example 300, to be sure that we will have enough time)
    6. Then again go to the filter box and type “dom.max_script_run_time”
    7. Change this value too, keep it same as above.
    8. Now restart firefox to take effects.

I hope at least one from those workarounds will work for your case.

Thank you for reporting this and also for your patience.

    Pavel
