Currently we have NPM 10.1 and NCM 6 on the same box with SQL for both on a separate box. I've looked at the videos and documentation but not entirely sure which scenario I need to install.
What I want is to integrate NPM and NCM web but keep separate DB's and not use any of the new syncing functionality that is available.
Do I need to move NCM to a different box as NPM to achieve the above scenario?
Is the NCM standalone gui still available in v7 as there is functionality in it that still isn't available in the integrated web gui?
Thanks
Jon
If NCM and NPM are on the same server they will be fully integrated. You'll need to move NCM to its own server for your requirements. Please see:
A few helpful tips and pointers to be aware of, before upgrading to NCM 7
Hi Jon,
Sean is correct that if you install on the same server they must be integrated and can move to a separate server if you do not wish them to be.
However, if you want NCM and NPM integrated in a single pain of glass in the web UI, integration is required and the databases will have to synchronize with each other in either the integrated single or two machine deployment scenarios. There are still two databases but the NCM nodes each will have an equivalent node in the Orion database.
Therefor if you move NCM to a different machine and do a standalone install it will partially achieve your requirement of not synchronizing but you will have two separate Orion websites, one with NPM and One with just NCM. You will also potentially have the same nodes on each server if they overlap.
The standalone NCM website from 6.x is no longer available as it had no functionality not already available in the new website.
Perhaps if you could share your concerns with integrating I could help provide further guidance.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info.
Currently we have two organistaions that access a shared NPM infrastruture but only one of these has there infrastruture in NCM and NPM.
One concern I have is that if we fully integrate NCM and NPM all the other organisations NPM infrastruture will automatically sync with NCM and they will then have full access to NCM both there infrastruture and ours and we definately don't want that. Also along with this we don't have SNMP or admin password access to there infrastruture so if NCM tried to sync with these switches they would fail and what impact would this have on NPM and NCM.
My other concern is that from looking through other posts, that an NPM admin would also be granted NCM admin rights even if they didn't have it previously so allowing all admin access to NCM which again we wouldn't want, is there a way of restricting NCM admin access?
Thanks
Jon
* bump *
Hi Jonchill,
We just released NCM 7.0.1 (service release in your portal) which offers the possibility to configure a user account (e.g. a user with an NPM profile) so that he/she cannot see any NCM resource. This new setting is NCM Role and the value to use is "none".
Look at the NCM admin guide section “Setting User Account Access” for more (step 17).
Let me know if it addresses your question
Can we get this added to our portal as well?
