We've had a lot of feedback from EOC users, and the next release is going to focus on performance. There are a number of features we're also working on, and those will be coming up soon after the performance release.

Christine,
One of our frustrations with EOC is the lack of ability to pull global reports. We currently have two separate NPM deployments and will be adding two more in Q4 2010 and Q1 2011. Is this something that will be addressed in the new release?
Derrick
Hi Slinky103 - we're working almost exclusively on performance right now, but the global reports are on the road map to be addressed in the next batch of features. We've had this request quite often, and it's very high priority.
--Christine
Hi Derrick (and others who have an opinion on this) - We are looking at putting global reports into EOC. If this were to be implemented in your most ideal way - what would the reports look like? What data would you most like to see? How would you want to use the reports?
--Christine
are you guys planning on doing AD groups or an everyone soon? with a couple hundred users on our eoc, it is tedious to add them then go in and have to add credentials one by one for each of the 5 NPM servers. not to mention when a password is changed and we have to go back through them all to update them.
We sure are... that's something we have been working on. We're in the beta right now, if you would be interested in participating in the RC - let me know and I'll get you added to the list - christine.bentsen@solarwinds.com.
sounds great. this would make EOC a million times better and save me some time to do some work on the maps and such rather than spend extra time adding and changing users. Thanks
Is the RC still running for the next release? I would like to jump in on it if I can.
Absolutely. I will provision you asap. Right now we're doing a smallish first wave, but if anyone else on this thread would like to get in on the first wave please let me know.

Hi everyone - the EOC 1.3 RC 2 is now available in the portal of all current customers. Like all RCs, this is a fully supported release.
Things to look for:
1. Dramatically improved performance throughout the application. This release focused on performance, and you will definitely see the results!
2. Support for AD groups.
3. Ability to set a home view for a user.
4. Bug fixes.
We're looking forward to your feedback.

Christine,
Does this release also include consolidate reporting?
Derik
The release that is in RC right now, no.
Per Christine's previous comment:
We're working almost exclusively on performance right now, but the global reports are on the road map to be addressed in the next batch of features. We've had this request quite often, and it's very high priority.
Once we get the follow on release locked down feature wise we will post an updated what we are working on post.
Brandon,
Thanks for the reply, I was just making sure nothing had changed from Christine's previous postings. As for additional information on what types of reports; most of my Customers would like to take the same reporting available in A single Orion and be able to incorporate them together into a Single Report. I have also gotten lots of feedback about having to manually copy reports to additional web servers and would like to have some automated options to where they could push reports in those size environments.
Derik
Things that need to be worked on:
Global reports
Researched support for Chrome (many small little parts do not like chrome)
A global notes box (a resource that ALL users can add to their view) .... This is critical for me. I have asked for something similar to be added many times, and still nothing.
Auto refresh hangs at random times in IE, tried on many pc's still the same. Sometimes it runs 20 days, other times 3 days. This is being verified by devices down and also the time in the upper right corner.
Thanks.
Hi Lateforwork - thanks for your feedback on EOC. We're in the RC phase for 1.3 and this release has a performance focus. I think you'll probably see your last concern addressed by upgrading, but if you don't, let us know and we'll work through it with you. On the top 3 requests in your list - I can give you some updates. Global reports is something we plan to start working on. I can't promise it will be in 1.4, but we are definitely investigating it and working through how that should function. On the support for Chrome - that's something we'd all like to see. Chrome isn't one of our officially supported browsers, though a lot of us use it and we'd like to add it to the list eventually. The global notes box is also on the road map, but it's coming behind a few other features with higher priority. We'll be updating the "what we are working on" post for EOC soon, so please take a look and give us your thoughts when we do.

I am not sure if there is a different forum for new features, but here one that would help a lot:
when assigning roles to users, the role should also include the list of Orions that the user has permission to view. I find that I add the user and forget to go back into the user to enable the Orions.
I will add more later, but I just wanted to make sure this was the place to post new features or not.
Thanks,
Scott
Is it possible to not gray out the entire screen when refreshing? For the operators, they want to make sure they can look up at any time and view what is going on. The 20 sec gray out time for the entire console is not being received well.
Haven't heard much about EOC for months. When is the next release? Is search for interface coming in the new release?
BB
Well we just released v1.3 not too long ago and are currently working on EOC 1.3 SP1, which is currently in customer acceptance. I have a list of things I am looking to get done and working with Dev on sizing, scoping etc. With that being said, we are getting ready to kick off on the next release soon. Once I get the details locked down a little tighter I will update this post with what we are aiming to get done.
One item high on my list is to bring module support up to date. We added the Virtualization tab, released new product UDT and have another one coming out later on, IPAM does not plug into EOC etc.
What are your top 3?
I'm surprised no one has answered you, maybe it feels futile to even suggest a top 3 for some. Or it could be that were just a smaller community and don't really check back that often. I see repeats of the same requests and never see them in the top priority's, whats that about.
1. Reports (they need to come together to present in our case global reports)
2. Maps (can get intigrated status globally)
3. Accounts
- Groups in AD don't always work
- Get an extra step in the wizard to allow a selection of Orion NPM accessable servers
- Why did my naming convention change with 1.3, I used to see real names now it's account names so I now have to search for both if I'm setting someone with access.
- I would like to scroll full page for accounts so the ability to adjust the number of rows beyond the "first fold" (minor I know but someone needs to ask for it.)
4. Polling engine status that really does show if the pollers are working. I found that by using the smallest graph possible I can track CPU status for each from the various regions. We are up to 5 pollers now and I'm sure that there is a way not to use an entire monitor just to monitor the Orion systems. BTW, I do have the email alerts setup but they don't always fire if more than the polling engine stops it's services. EOC just seems like the right place to have the ability to really know if they are all polling and collecting statistics.
No matter where you look in the forums the first two come up time and time again.
The third one has a couple of bullets that you see in the forums they are really annoying to everyone who is an administrator. Account setup should not be a wizard setup and then a secondary visit to each and ever users account. My company has over 500 IT professionals worldwide and another 350 or so development and application professionals, then there are the 35,000+ user base. It's really a big deal to reduce those steps since everyone has a reason to access Orion.
Finally, I added in 4 as it's crazy how many times we get a call from someone who is pulling a report and for some reason one of the pollers have stopped without anyone on the NOC noticing. Give me a big blaring red ribbon at the top of the screen that reads, "CHECK THE POLLERS" and I would be a happy camper.
Anyway, thanks for the great support you guys always dish out to our company and the Solarwinds support staff gets kudo's for really listening and working those problems to the end.
Give me a big blaring red ribbon at the top of the screen that reads, "CHECK THE POLLERS" and I would be a happy camper.
I had a custom report that showed the poll time of a device on each poller for that very reason. I could quickly see the last poll time and last database update at a glance on our dashboard.
Groups are a major part of NPM / APM trending on sets of nodes or sets of apps working in concert to provide services to its consumers. EOC needs to embrace and enhance the ability to group dispersed systems from different NPM / APM systems.
Reports currently are passthrough to reports in different Orions. Reports for EOC should include totalities of Orions.
Maps conversions from Orions should be reworked in the EOC. Maybe an option in network atlas when connecting to an EOC, or the conversion tool built into web management. Not sure, but current process is a pain.
My top 3.
Scott.
What are your top 3?
I have one and only one but it's a huge request. If you are running EOC then you likely are a MSP running multiple licenses of solarwinds. That being said the workstation you are bringing up EOC or SolarWinds for that matter likely isn't on the same network as that of which you are polling. To have EOC or SolarWinds execute the functions of (Ping, Tracert, Telnet, SSH, etc) within say a java window where the actual session is sourced from the poller would be a huge plus.
Without that the user sees the issue on their browser and then has to open a terminal or some other remote connection to do any type of diagnostic.
All solid feedback and much of it I have heard before and is on my list. Reports and Maps are high up on my list. What is higher for me is a refresh of module support. Right now we don't support IPAM, UDT, the new Virtualization or Group stuff we added in 10.1, so I want to get those gaps filled. This is not all we are going to do, we are goin to sprinkle in some other bug fixes and features, but well notes, I hear you and we are working towards many of these things. I think 1.3 was a good step forward, but we still have some more work to do.
EOC really lack of ability. My customer complain that even to show a simple total nodes in network, total nodes up and total nodes down could not be done. I hope there would be SQL based reporting resource in the next release..
Cheers,
Rudi
Rudi, I understand that SQL based reporting resource would be versatile, anyway if you need to display number of up/down nodes, you can do it in the Global Node Status by Site resource when you group nodes by Status column.
Is there any chance of getting more graphics integrated into this. For example in NTA there are some nice pie charts that would look really neat filling up the 60" screens at my work.
More Graphical presentations would be nice!
What is being done with EOC today? We haven't seen any new versions, patches, etc in months. With NPM going to 10.2.2 I'm seeing event icons with X now since EOC doesn't seem to have a icon for it. Where are the feature requests?
I have one. It's tiresome to have to pull the same report data from X amount of pollers. We need EOC to pull the same data from all pollers for the same report. I'm sure there are more.
BB
I have several customers that can really benefit from EOC, but their use of SolarWinds has grown way beyond the original set of EOC supported modules (NPM, APM, NTA, IPSLA, NCM). We have customers that need to have rollups from regions that include:
We need some updates about the future of EOC. The feature requests for generating reports, etc. across the regions, as well as updates, support for current revisions, etc. are all very important to us.
Please let us know where things are at.
