Device Standard configuration compare within KiwiCattools

Jaybed

Hi

We currently have a global SOE for all of our devices we run on our network. This includes firmware and configuration. We use Kiwi Cattools to backup all of our configurations.

What I would like to be able to do is to create a SOE backup file, for all of our device types, and then be able to run an activity which checks all of our device configurations files, based on device type, against this SOE backup file. I would then like Cattools to create a report against this activity and let us know which devices adhere to our standard configuration and which do NOT. It would also be good to then run another activity against those that don't and let me know what configuration is missing from those devices.

I have noticed that there is a "Report.Compare.Two files" activity but unfortunately this is not scaleable and manageable to use for all of our network devices.

Is this something that is possible within Kiwi Cattools and if so can this be submitted as a feature request please?

This would be such a useful feature for us from a manageability perspective but also from an audit compliance perspective.

Regards

Jamie

    Hi

Is there no interest in this type of feature? Does noone out there have standard build configurations they use on their devices and not think it would be useful to be able to check those devices are adhering to the standard build?

      Hi

Forgot to add. I raised this as a feature request which got passed onto the product development team.

They have said this wouldn't be implemented as it's something that is implemented in Solarwinds NCM. Now we don't use Solarwinds, just Cattools. Apparently Cattools is aimed at smaller businesses although I bet there are some large companies using Cattools as it's very good at what it does. We are not a massive company but have offices all over the world and each of our 3 regions both use this product.

If I could raise some interest from forum members then maybe I can get the product team to agree to look at implementing this feature.

      Regards

        HI Jaybed.

The feature request has ben opened as part of your case (107014)

At this time we don't have enough traction on this and this feature is already possiblble with NCM.

NCM is suitable for small accounts (as well as larges) but has more sophisticated features. I want to make sure that you know that NCM has a free eval that you can download for 30 days, to look at, an try these more advanced features. Compliance reporting is another one that you may find interesting.
